Water Quantity (Instream and Non-Instream) Topic Forum

The water quantity topic forum is guided by a series of science and policy questions (below). The Partnership will also host a public workshop on May 5 (see meeting details below).

Water Quantity Topic Forum

May 5 - Edmonds

Lead:

Core Team Members:

Steve Hirshey, Brian Walsh, Hal Beecher, Carl Samuelson, Jim Miller, Bill Graham, Lynn Doremus

Science Questions Framing Topic Forum Discussions

Status of freshwater quantity

  • Summarizing/synthesizing key findings from previous efforts to date, and updating as appropriate, what do we know about the quantity of freshwater in the Puget Sound region?

Effectiveness of management approaches

  • What does the scientific literature tell us about the most effective approaches for managing freshwater supply?

Policy Questions Framing Topic Forum Discussions

Policy approaches to address freshwater supply in Puget Sound: What are we doing now?

  • What policy approaches are being used to manage water supply in the Puget Sound region, for habitat, species, and for supply?

Needs assessment and actions: Where are the gaps?

  • Using the results from the three previous science and policy discussions, what needs to be done to address the documented threats to water quantity practices in the Puget Sound region?
  • What criteria should be considered for prioritizing actions for to address freshwater supply needs?
  • What scientific and/or policy-based target “endpoints” could be considered for this topic?
  • How will we know we are making progress on improving the condition of freshwater supply in the Puget Sound region?
