Listening for Orcas

What do orcas sound like and how do their vocalizations travel under water? Is the ocean a loud environment? Find out the answers to these questions and more in this Orca Month program. Get a chance to learn about how scientists study orcas by listening to our active hydrophone research station and get more information on how you can listen for orcas from your home computer.

The contest will be coupled with the Reef Environmental Education Foundation’s (REEF) Great Annual Fish Count and entry is free. October 22-24 All day Urban Waterfronts 27: Sustainable Solutions
Seattle Waterfront Marriott, Seattle, WA

The Waterfront Center's 27th annual international conference on  waterfront planning, development and culture will feature 33 speakers including a keynote presentation by aerial photographer Alex Mac Lean and a final presentation by Johnpaul Jones and Jane Jacobsen who will discuss the Confluence Project on the Columbia River. The 23rd Annual Excellence on the Waterfront Honor Awards will be announced and presented on Friday, October 23rd.
