Three citizen leaders reappointed to governing board of Puget Sound Partnership
OLYMPIA – Gov. Chris Gregoire last month reappointed three members of the Puget Sound Partnership Leadership Council to four-year terms.
Diana Gale of Seattle, Dan O’Neal of Belfair and Steve Sakuma of Burlington will remain on the Leadership Council for terms effective June 26, 2009, through June 25, 2013.
“I am pleased to hear the governor reappointed each of these members, who have made countless positive contributions to our work to restore and protect Puget Sound,” said Leadership Council Chair Bill Ruckelshaus. “Their willingness to serve will provide the continuity we need to succeed in implementing the Action Agenda.”
Gregoire and the Legislature created the Partnership to determine how and why Puget Sound’s health is declining and to organize a region-wide effort to clean it up. The Leadership Council serves as the Partnership’s governing body.
In December 2008, the Leadership Council adopted an Action Agenda that outlines the immediate and long-term actions needed to make the Sound healthy again.
The reappointments of Gale, O’Neal and Sakuma are subject to confirmation by the state Senate. The Legislature will hold its next regular session beginning in January 2010.
The terms of Ruckelshaus and three other current Leadership Council members – Billy Frank Jr., Martha Kongsgaard and Bill Wilkerson – don’t begin expiring until June 2010.
