Shellfish Initiative Advisory Group will meet Dec. 9 in Tacoma

The Shellfish Initiative Advisory Group will provide updates on the status of Washington State Shellfish Initiative measures from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at the Center for Urban Waters, 326 East D Street, Tacoma.

The Washington State Shellfish Initiative is a convergence of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Shellfish Initiative and the State’s interest in promoting a critical clean water industry.

The Shellfish Initiative Advisory Group includes federal, state and local government, tribes, commercial shellfish growers, private organizations, and individuals with an interest in shellfish aquaculture, water quality improvement, marine resource protection and helping implement the Washington State Shellfish Initiative.

The Core Group consists of representatives from the Office of the Governor, Department of Ecology, Department of Health, NOAA, EPA, Pacific Coast Shellfish Grower’s Association and the Puget Sound Restoration Fund. The Puget Sound Partnership provides performance management tracking for the Washington Shellfish Initiative in accordance with its mission to report and track progress in achieving goals set by the region for recovery.
